"Christmas Town? Hmmm..."
A little tribute to my all-time favorite Christmas movie, "The Nightmare Before Christmas," turning 25 this year. Jack Skellington discovering the wonders of Christmas Town and what the holiday has to offer is one of the best scenes/musical numbers I've ever seen and know by heart.
I was 7 years-old when my big sister and I first watched it on VHS. Mom thought it would be too scary, but Dad, being both a lover of stop-motion animation and anything Tim Burton, managed to convince her to let us rent it. At first, it was kinda scary, but then we grew to love everything about it, particularly the idea of a Halloweeny Christmas and this skinny skeleton guy wanting to be Santa Claus.
Jack Skellington is still one of my favorite characters, in terms of both design and personality (one of my favorite to draw, too) and the whole Danny Elfman soundtrack is a constantly fun earworm ("What's This?" is my personal favorite). What I really enjoy about this movie nowadays, though, is that my nephew and niece love watching it, too.
Sure, most people consider it as only a Halloween movie, but I've made it a tradition to watch it during both Halloween AND Christmas. It's a strangely perfect mashup of the two holidays; you get the best of both, whether you expect the Pumpkin King or "Sandy Claws." #Christmas2018
