And this reminds me of some theories I've heard to use rotating black holes to generate a massive supply of energy. Called the Penrose process, upon looking it up. If you could surround a black hole with mirrors and space them such that some energy can escape, you could shoot a ray of light in to it to kind of sap some of the black hole's rotational energy to get more light out than you put in.
And if you didn't have them separated enough, you'd instead basically make a Black Hole Bomb.

In star trek the romulans use a singularity engine. Aka a mini black hole they feed matter into and use the energy made by the accretion disc to power their ships.
