Finli Lochlann was born the third of five children to a couple in Hammonton, New Jersey. For all intents and purposes, the Lochlann family was the portrait of suburban normalcy. Employed as a marketing director for the Borgata Hotel in Atlantic City, her mother commuted a half-hour to work every day. Finli’s father, on the contrary, stayed at home to tend to his handmade crafts business. Beneath the surface, however, laid terrible truths centuries old. The reason Finli’s father was self-employed was to conveniently anchor him close to the Pine Barrens.

You see, as its protector—the infamous Jersey Devil—he always needed to be near the heavily forested woodlands northwest of town. Most would never learn that the Devil was neither one man nor an inherently evil creature. In fact, if it weren’t for the Jersey Devil, the surrounding area would soon be overwhelmed by dangerous, interdimensional beings often mistaken for demons. Finli’s father, Felix Lochlann, is but the latest bearer of the Leeds Devil curse. Until the portal discharging the “demons” is discovered and sealed thereafter, the descendants of Jane Leeds will be forced to tend to the Pines forevermore. One child from each subsequent generation is chosen by fate to inherit the powers and features inherent to the mythic Jersey Devil. Sadly, like her father before her, Finli may one day become the next Leeds Devil. Her birth was proceeded by a wildfire which devastated nearly 20,000 acres of forest in and around Burlington County. More than anything, this fire was the harbinger of what soon would come. Felix Lochlann realized this inevitability when Finli began high school. His power diminished as hers grew in strength.

In short order, Finli gained powers inherent to her family’s mythic pedigree: wild empathy, shapeshifting and fear inducement among for starters. Finli knows that it won’t be long until her father’s mantle becomes her own; but this brown bat won’t accept what fate has assigned. For now, Finli is studying elementary education at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville. Thankfully, while there, she'll be joined by two other students with extraordinary powers like her own: Wilis Rockwell and Ywain Whalen. Once finished in Virginia, if not sooner, she’ll return to the Pinelands and break this curse which has ensnared her family for centuries. If she must be the Jersey Devil, she’ll ensure she’s the last.
