You promised to always care for me and in your heart, you said, I’d stay. But somewhere further down the line, life got in your way. With kids of your own, a wife, and a job, no more could we play. I seemed to fall under your radar, even when I went out of my way. I’m sorry if I annoy you now, I just want to hear about your day...
Things that were once fun, now end with your scolding face. Hopes and joys that I once clung to, now feel so out of place. So much is changing, I cant keep up, though you expect that much of me. I will always be your friend, even if you forget I’m tied to a tree.
Our once pure companionship slowly faded away, and my every little need, became more of a pain. It feels like I have no chance to change, locked away for most of my days, yet I want to try and fill that space, even if you do not feel the same. Life seems to be consumed for you, no chance to allow the light to bloom. I know it’s still there, I see it in your stare, when you hold your child to fend off his terror. What happened between you and I? Was my position always this compromised? Was it all a lie, the love we shared? I though you said you would always be there...
So as we sit in the car, driving for what feels like years, I wonder where you’ll stop, If this will be fun or something to fear? Why is your face wet? What is making you sad? Did I do something wrong, why wont you look at me dad? Seeing your eyes splice with sorrow, I think I finally understand... I wont be with you tomorrow, you’ve decided it’s the end. Whatever I did wrong, I am so sorry! Please don’t ever forget me! This other man you leave me with, I’ll never give him the same gift. You have my heart, I never took it back, my love for you is still buried outback.

Beautifully written, and surprisingly applicable to a situation approaching with a friend and his dog :( Well done, not much a fan of poems in general due to the rhyning nature of most, but this was done well, not the metaphors aren't stretched pretentiously thin, the rhyming is not taking precendence and impeding the words, the message, so well done, and I am going to go read your other writing now, as I've put it off too long. Excellent poem, poor puppy :(
(Also, i read this two or three times trying to understand, the "dad" throwing me off each time, until I finally just read the title and was like "OHH!" lol :P) Again, great writing, from a lover of writing, and great poem, from a disliker of most poems. So that's quite high praise ;)
