You should definitely do a short story linking to your drawings. I try to make a backstory for as many of my drawings that I can. Most people don't read your captioning, but on occasion it can give you an ideas how to continue the story or for another drawing.
For example, I put a drawing recently "After The Battle" (which was to be a stand alone commission) but it gave me an idea for a series of drawings and a bigger backstory for "The Orbital Light Infantry"
