This was the second conceptual drawing I did for the comic I mentioned with the ingeniously titled "Mage" thing. This guy is one of the mechanics from the other land, presumably one from their main academy. I wanted to try to make their technology look a little like it was always steam powered (which it usually was, since they haven't figured out electricity and steam is the best they can do to immitate our own technology). I didn't really capture that here, though.
The script behind the guy is their language, which I find amusing since it's all flowy compared to the rigid script of the mages. You'd think it'd be the other way around. This was actually just an accident on my part, but I figured it made some sense because people tend to always try to aspire to or admire what they aren't or what they don't have (mages admiring rigid control and order while the mechanics admire the art and creativity of stuff). And the stuff in the back... is umm... lots of math-looking circles and squares. Originally, I was actually recreating an early attempt to deduce pi through a geometric scheme, but I sorta gave up on that pretty fast and just doodled mathish stuff.
Unlike the mages, the mechanic idea never changed all that much since they don't have all the uniforms and such. I kept them anthro, of course, since I happen to like anthros, and also, the Order of Light is highly racist, so I thought it'd be an interesting contrast for when they finally met.
