This was a doodle that was part of the conceptual art for yet another of the comic ideas I came up with. The comic is set in a post-apocalyptic time when our modern technologies have pretty much been lost (I actually had a fun idea for how we managed to kill ourselves too in which, unlike most similar stories, there wasn't a big bomb or a sudden end). There's two primary lands which are only vaguely aware of each other at first - one being a land run in a similar way as most fantasy stories - you know, mages, rulers, stuff like that (with only a few bits and pieces of varying technology discovered from ruins); and the other being a society that is largely unaware of magic, but has devoted itself to rediscovering the mysteries and technologies of the "ancients" (us).

Anyway, this was a sort of an early conceptual idea for one of the mages. He's part of the Order of Light, which is a powerful and respected guild made up primarily of magic users who are devoted to fighting against evil (mostly the vampires and stuff that have sprung up). The sort of stylized flame/smoke in the background is the symbol of the Order of Light, the runes in the back is their language, and the clothes the kitty is wearing was my initial (boring) idea for their uniforms. Since then, there have been major changes, such as to the uniforms, which are now a lot more interesting, and also to the people themselves (such as the majority of the mageish people being human).

I don't know if I'll ever run with the idea, but it's still a possibility. Of course, given my track record of abandoned comic ideas... *shrugs*
