This, of course, is a 3-tailed kitsune, the fox spirit of Japanese culture. I've always found kitsunes intriguing, fun, and generally cool. So, I thought I'd draw one. Since I love mythological creatures, I'm thinking of perhaps going through all the fun ones I can think of and trying to depict them in a fun way. I'm not sure if I'll go through with it, but if I am, I guess this is the start.
I had a bit of trouble drawing a vulpine as I've never really been too good at drawing non-felines (although I'm trying - more and more of late). I found out a bit late that foxes have WHITE tail-tips, not black. I knew something looked wrong. Oops.
I also found having so many tails a challenge to lay out in a visually interesting, but natural way. There seems to be potential there for some interesting movement, flow, and balance effects. Unfortunately, I think the way it turned out is a bit plain and boring, but if I try any more kitsunes, I'll certainly have to play around a lot more with different ideas.
I quite liked how the innocent "Nothing Interesting Here, Move Along" look turned out.
