Couch Kitties: Four And Twenty Finches...
More like 70, actually...

It was a bird-brained scheme that landed one passenger arriving into New York through John F. Kennedy International Airport in a hairy situation. On Saturday, U. S. Customs and Border Protection stopped a passenger arriving from Guyana and discovered they were carrying 70 live birds hidden in hair rollers in a black duffel bag.
And we know why, don't we?

but but don't we already have tons of feral finches in the u.s. already?
other then 'squab', just what the bird brained heck was she (he?) planning to do with them?
(or are they some specific sub-species that is somehow rare or endangered?)
i'm guessing this is not an endangered species violation so much as a transportation code violation,
and possibly an animal abuse violation. violation of import duty on livestock?
humans do the weirdest things, and sometimes,
well presumably intent was to sell,
but to whom? did a buyer already exist?
a pet store chain or a research lab?
this raises so many questions inquiring minds want to know.
