The 'Journals of Claude' is a set of short fiction telling the stories of my Terra universe after the comets struck and civilization collapsed. Now a set of uplifted animals and humans must work together to live in peace.

*hmm.. any old Claude we know?*
I love this revitalized journal perspective it is refreshing. The awe and the fantastic in innerrestropection between audience and Claude is handled here.
I also love how even though how us writers of genetically altered animals treat human and their creations relationship differently and approach the tale drastically. I have many universes, but Janissary with its Engi short for engineered, Earth is a utter Hell Hole forgotten by a majority of what is now the human race, and the few who remain on the world utterly dying in maddening barbarism.

Could be (giggles) The Majik Doll might shoot you a note ;)
Oh thank you! I wrote it in Feb, and when mother started getting sick I lost all desire to write. A good idea to just let it sit however, as when I started back I threw out nearly all of it and re-did it from scratch. It also has a message that Bala (in Spiritwalk) will use 130 years later - Reunification.
That is one major reason why this story-world has been so incredibly slow going. If I wanted to make 'humans in fursuits' -- as my mentor Shadowwalker put it, I could have this done years ago. But trying to portray uplifts in an accurate way has been exceptionally difficult. Even with my physiology course 'Comparative physiology' (IE: Animal physiology) helped only somewhat. I want to keep a sense of optimism even in Terra - Ragnarök. I'm going to move out past the tribe soon to see how the 'other half lives.' I'm sure there is going to be a lot of conflict between the various species.
I loved Janissary! I'm going to make an effort over the next few months to read your works. I have a new add-on chrome (dotEPUB) that converts all web pages to epub, so I can read it on my tablet easy, and started with Janissary. Brilliantly written, and it makes me wish again I had the skills to write as good as authors I still admire. I'm working on learning how Wellman wrote his 'John the Wanderer' series, the holidays are normally difficult to concentrate on anything academic so hopefully early next year I can write my first story in his voice.

Yep letting things sit and redoing them after the sitting is part of the process. I agree, it is frustrating how much modern anthropomorphic writing lacks well the anthropomorphic.
That was a short story in the Janissary Universe not Janissary itself. You always seem so concerned with voice, it is your voice, there is no have it or not as long as you know your characters and keep to tone, world, and genre.

Very true. I grew up with Live Aid, Band-aid's "Do they know it's christmas" and I was one of the many of the 'hands across america'. So I can see humanity's compassion. In 1978 when the blizzard of the century hit and I and about 18 families was buried in snow in our hollar, we all came together to hunt and try to get back to town, and even share food we all had. Two months I couldn't go to school, but at least we got the holler's road plowed, and a few men with 4 wheel drives and quadrunners got to town and back with groceries a bit later. That's true compassion, and caring.
But I also see the bad, and the evil of humanity. I cannot forgive them.

Thank you! You have shown me some parts of his personally, and I need to flesh out his back history. The incident he mentioned with Mary and his past has been on my mind for a long time but I've been unable to really write it. It's a prequel to how the Hindvailan tribe actually formed since it's such a unique chiefdom; six plentycael species and humans live together? Very odd even in the story-world.
But yes, I wanted to add that piece about how they think differently. I spotted it a long time ago with "H8" when John said that they (the plentycaels) helped humanity though the 'lost century' (I'm thinking about the 25th, maybe WWIII) and it ties in with Bala's idea, 130 years later of reunification after her Spiritwalk.
Some of my spiritual heroes are definitely not the organized religions. Mother Teresa, Rosa Parks, Dr. King, and of course the Dali Lamia, Budda, and of course many native-americans. They are more interested in helping people, not controlling them as I see so much organized religions. Doesn't mean there isn't good ones (I think Pope Francis, and John are good) but there is too much corruption.
More stories are coming with Claude. If I can just work out the one I mentioned above you'll see a lot of his early life. But his journals are coming too. I have about 20,000 words of back story now :).
