Lumi's home-town is in an extremely remote part of the arctic circle, and before she came along, folks were forced to retreat to the south every year. Lumi helps protect the town in a number of ways, whether it's against heavy snowstorms, avalanches, polar bears, helping people lost in the snow, or even just this here, wading through the icy Northern Norwegian seas, to get supplies from the main land when it's too dangerous to send ships.
And with her size shifting abilities, and it's more than easy enough to carry a few shipping containers. She just needs to remember to empty her bag fully before school the next day.
