Getting into Super Smash Bros. requires participants to pass rigorous tests, both physical and mental. One of these is an endurance challenge. But Isabelle was just so sweet and genuine and determined to make it...no one wanted to disappoint her or hurt her. So the committee essentially made the trials easier for her and let her choose her own form of endurance test. Thus, she kinda cheated and picked a "test" that was something she secretly loved...tickle torture!
Incidentally, Krystal took the same endurance test. She didn't score high enough to get in, but at least they let her be an Assist Trophy.

At least Isabelle gets to follow her dream now and even with tickle torture being something she loves, it's still to be admired she had the stamina to pass the test. I imagine though that being so sweet and adorable even now she's in the Super Smash Bros. there would be many of the fighters whom wouldn't be able to bring themselves to fight her full out so perhaps all of her battles will be in the form of tickle fights.
