OC Profile - The Skellington Kids (The Nightmare Before Christmas)
The “Heirs to the Pumpkin Throne” - but not really. Jack is only a king by name and seeing as how they are all undead and immortal he won’t be passing anything onto them. That being said, once they’re old enough, the kids are expected to hold some kind of authority in Halloween Town. For now they are just the king and queen’s equally eccentric brood.
Star is the eldest. She’s the oddball of the family in that she doesn’t have a single “scary” bone in her body, which was really disappointing to the rest of the Halloween citizens. She isn’t great at scaring people and doesn’t care to get any better. She’s more fascinated by other holidays and the technical parts of Halloween production, such as painting leaves of dressing attics with cobwebs. Star grows up to be a sort of Halloween translator who brings a touch of autumn flair to everything she does, which is much appreciated in small doses. For now, she’s busy dreaming of becoming a Christmas elf and teasing her little brother.
Tim is the second child. He worships Jack and never wastes the opportunity to impress him, or at least try to. Tim likes to brag he’s an expert at stuff he clearly has no idea bout. This results in a lot of big talk from the skeleton boy, followed by anticipated failure and amused laughter of his parents’ friends and subjects - with the exception of Lock, Shock, and Barrel, who love to remind him that he’ll never be like Jack. Tim hates being called “cute” and talked down to be the other monsters of Halloween Town, hence his need to prove himself whenever the time is right. The only person he’s bound to listen to is his mother, whose quite prepared for his overambitious schemes and knows how to bring him back to reality.
Noel is currently the baby of the family. When she grows up she’ll be the proven success story of the Skellingtons, inheriting all of Sally’s brains and Jack’s punctuality. For now, she spends most of her time near her mother and being followed around by Zero and Uno.
Down the line Noel is followed by Tinsel and Bartholomew (Bauble), but for now I like to focus on these three and their family of five dynamic.
Trvia:
-Star is NOT MY OC. She was created by my sister and we fused my idea of JackxSally kids with hers to create the Skellington kids as you see them here.
-All of Jack and Sally’s kids are named after something Christmas related. Star is named after a Christmas star, Tim after Tiny Tim from A Christmas Carol, and Noel should be obvious as should Tinsel and Bauble.
-Tim’s name is technically a triple reference; in universe he was named after Tiny Tim, but his fully name is Timothy William Skellington, named after a character from Beatrix Potter’s The Tale of Johnny Town Mouse. He was also named in part after TNBC’s creator, Tim Burton.
-They did not inherit seems or stitches from their mother. Their stitches are actually bone staples they got after continually getting injured while jumping out the window.
-Halloween Town doesn’t have a school as between the Skellington kids, Bat Boy, Corpse Kid, and Mummy Boy (the Boogie Boys are parent-less and are drop outs) there’s only 6-8 children in town. The Skellingtons are home-schooled like the other children, who get taught their basic needs while working on Halloween with their parents. Sally is a better teach than Jack, though. Her job is less hectic and she’s taught her children math, science and reading to help her in her shop.
-The most I will ever say for how they came to be is no, they were not “created” by Dr. Fink or their parents. In a world where Santa Claus lives behind a door in a tree, do we really need to know how a skeleton-guy and a ragdoll woman can conceive or birth children?
-I will say, if Sally or other creatures in Halloween Town can get pregnant, I imagine it to be more like Alien than a Hallmark commercial.
