Proof you don't always need a jump capable craft in Traveller.
The first ship of my current thread of my Traveller campaign the PC's had, was just a ship's boat named the Cormorant. For a hero ship, she wasn't half bad.
They fought (sea) pirates with her, went on multiple rescue ops, smuggled marijuana products that Nestle held the local monopoly on, went on safari out of, and got shot out of the sky by an alien defense system in the Cormorant. (She got bettah). She was repaired using parts from a different, armed Roebuck that likewise got shot down some 20 years prior and managed to fly once the surviving characters turned off the alien defense system.
She was the vessel used to make first contact with the Leshallis, or Placerbeasts in the deepest darkest jungles of Babar on Schepehyrd, which had been living on the world for millions of years before the humans showed up and colonized their world. Small numbers, low technology and isolation hid them for the first 80ish years of Schepehyrd being a human colony.
The Cormorant unfortunately enabled her owner to discover her replacement, a (barely) jump capable pocket freighter, an Indy class ship, so old and decrepit, that its value was scant half of the Cormorant's, credit wise.
These days she waits on Schepehyrd for those brief visits by her owner, Redd Hughes, and his traveling companions, becoming their primary intercity and insystem transport when they return 'home'.
Someday, when they upgrade, Redd is certain to carry the Cormorant on a future ship designed to carry a Roebuck, but until then, she sits in Hugheston Downport, waiting loyally for her captain.
