Abilities: She is a jack of all trades in magic, but not yet master of any. Maple has a lot of powers in her disposal, but has not mastered any of them. It takes years and years of dedicated practice after all, and she has a life outside of learning it. Despite that, she is proficient in various spells, including offensive like fire bolts, defensive like barriers, and support like healing or boosts. She can also hover using wind magic.

Weaknesses: Magic is her pride and joy, but anything that can nullify it would put her in a serious disadvantage, since she cannot handle a physically challenging foe for long on her own.

Personality: Maple is a polite and soft-spoken individual who tries to help out where she can and do her best as her parents raised her to be a respectful and helpful where she can be, doing her best when she does and cares a lot about anyone she is training, knowing how it's like to be in their shoes. But she never outgrew her playfulness and rowdiness from when she was a kid, so when things started to get hectic, so does she. This is detrimental to her, as she needs to be focused and calm to use her spells effectively.

Background: Maple Kalino spent a lot of time on the city streets, going out with her mother often on shopping trips. On one such trip, she wandered off to a fortune teller's booth while her mother wasn't looking, and stumbled into one of the biggest surprises of her life. Curious about the whole bizarre set-up, she climbed onto the chair in front of the table and noticed the book on it. Although it was heavy for her, she managed to pull it open and started reading the pages. When the fortune teller heard her reading the verses in the book out loud, he rushed in to stop her from going any further, but then there was an explosion of pink and purple energy around the young Red Panda.

Cutting forward a number of years later, Maple Kalino had grown into adulthood, having been seeing the fortune teller in question to learn how to control her powers that she accidentally bestowed upon herself by reading from that book. Granted, she did have innate magic, but that was locked away. However, reading the book is what unblocked it for her. Since then, she's learned how to use it and has been doing so under the name of Starshard, the mage heroine of Coast City, since entering adulthood.

This got her to meet John McCarter, who reached out to her after her debut, asking to work together to help make Coast City a better place. When they met Wenyan, she was the one who suggested they form the group that would become Vanguard. Later on, she would meet Maya and Etrian, training them to use magic as she was trained herself by the fortune teller. This sparked her to open up a magic school in a joint effort with Wenyan's dojo, and has helped more people with manifested magical powers to control them effectively to not be hazards. One example being Emerald Blaze.

Another awesome art piece by , this time of one of my female superheroes, the Red Panda known as Starshard! Took me long enough to add one into my so-far-but-not-anymore all male art roster!

This is an edited version, as a few friends commented that she would be better without the fauld. And I am in agreement with that idea.
