Very nicely done.

I have learned that it's very hard to draw an image that still looks good when reduced to icon size.

That's true. For this one I had planned to initially draw it as big as the avatar's eventual size, but then decided to make the head circle twice as big and then draw from there before resizing back to avatar size.
