So here is where the end caps go. The ruby goes down the center of the cylinder (not visible, but attached to the brass tube sticking out of the end). The two flash lamps are on either side of the ruby, and connect to the large black wires. The purple wire is frame ground. Coolant lines are under the cylinder (not especially visible). It is currently achieving a gain of about 1.8 times.

Its not actually much more than a hair dryer. It runs on 240 mostly because it was built in England, and it was easier to use 240 rather than convert the power circuitry to run on 120.
