No Better Place, No Better Company
Last Saturday, my mate
and I celebrated our 6th anniversary (since we started dating), so as is customary I made some art of our characters to mark the occasion. In past anniversary images, I have always gone for a more symbolic approach, having the artwork represent something that we experienced together that year, whether it be something in our personal growth or a move to a new city. But this year (and likely in years moving forward) I thought it would be nice to just draw them enjoying their life together in the home they’ve made for themselves. Love can resemble the cover of a romance novel occasionally, but it’s the little moments and seemingly mundane things that you do together day after day that make up the heart of a relationship. It’s not always pretty and perfect but it’s definitely always worth it.
And so on that thought, they are shown here relaxing in some cozy corner of their treehouse, which is built into the crown of a massive oak tree. I included our pets - Morloth the cat and Tyrion and Rhaegar our rats - in the image as well, even though canonically speaking our characters probably wouldn't have any, preferring to just let the wild animals of the forest come and go as they wish. Plenty of potted plants, perhaps a few of them with medicinal properties or herbs used in cooking, line the shelf behind them. I imagine various wind chimes and beaded ornaments hanging from the branches, and a warm breeze blowing lightly through the room, carrying with it the sound of rustling leaves and birdsong. A beautiful paradise made even better by sharing it with each other. This is how I see our home here and that was my inspiration for the piece I drew this year.
Actual size is 11"x14", what you see here is actually not a scan but a photo I took with my phone, so the edges aren't perfectly straight. I figure this method is preferable to trying to stitch them together so there's no seam running down the middle.
If you remember, we did get engaged last year - we still haven't made any wedding plans but I think we're just going to keep it really simple. We don't have much money for a huge fancy ceremony and besides neither of us thinks extravagance is necessary anyway. We're still not in any rush to be honest - we have a lot on our plate just trying to survive day to day and we basically already feel like we're married. >u< I'm sure whatever we do end up doing will be immortalized in artwork though, when the time is right. :)

I really enjoyed looking through all of the previous years images and seeing your growth as an artist as well. This is much more relaxed then your normal fair, and I absolutely adore it. All of the greenery and the relaxed poses, and the little hints of color or personality really speak to me.
So wonderfully done. Happy anniversary!

Thank you! ^_^ As much fun as the deep stuff is I kinda thought it might be a hard reach most years when nothing major is happening. Slice of life images always appeal to me when I see other artists do them so I thought why not take these in that direction. It’d be a great way to explore our characters’ day-to-day life a bit more since otherwise I rarely have time. :)
