Paducah rebuild 405 pulls uphill past the Medicine Lake Rd/27th Ave crossing headed northbound summer 1993. At the time the TCW kept it's engines pretty clean and extensively used the former MN&S line then under the SOO Line banner.
Paducah rebuild refers to the Paducah Kentucky Illinois Central Gulf shops that rebuilt these locomotives and hundreds of others, updating systems internally and externally to bring them up to second generation standards at the time, the 70's and early 1980's. These GP7 and GP9's had a characteristic air filter hood just behind the cabs to hold Dynacell paper air filters and these are a big giveaway as to their history.
Originally shot on Kodak Gold 400ASA with a non-descript Kodak 'point and shoot'. Then re-shot RAW at 100ASA. Colour curves were used in Photoshop to correct negative orange cast and then inverted. Then brought into Aperture for further tweaks. This negative has a scratch that runs left to right across the nose of the engine.
Built 1954
IC #9049
IC #8251
Rebuilt to a GP10 in1973
TCWR 405
FMRC 8251
GNBC 8251
