There once was a magician known as the Bewildering Bancroft, an elderly gentleman who quickly rose to fame from out of nowhere. His marvelous and amazing talent, however, was the result of a partnership he made with a pixie that took the form of a simple rabbit.
The two would go on to great fame, with the rabbit – going by the name of Hope – being billed as Bancroft’s assistant and partner. Everything seemed to go fine, until the fame began to get to Bancroft, leading to him becoming more and more of a glory hound and ignoring the fact that his magic came from his pixie partner, who, in turn, grew more and more dissatisfied with things.
It all eventually came to a head with Bancroft telling Hope that he didn’t need her any more, and that it was him that really mattered. That if she couldn’t accept that, she could just leave.
And so Hope did, but not before deciding to give one last show herself. After all, the worst thing you could do was anger a fae.
As Bancroft called up a volunteer to showcase the classic ‘disappearing box’ trick, Hope waited until the poor young man was inside the box. Once he was, she shot into the box and jettisoned her bunny disguise onto the man, as well as cut her magical link with Bancroft and gave the magic to her victim instead.
She then sat back and watched the fallout of her actions with immense glee. Sure, she felt a bit sorry for the young man she had turned into a small bunny girl, but at least she gave her the gift of magic in return, right? That had to account for something, and it gave her a great way to make Bancroft’s life miserable for being such a jerk.
