When I was little and growing up in the early 1990s, 'Alvin & The Chipmunks' was one of my weekday afternoon and saturday morning favourites. I've seen the 2007 live action film that resurrected the franchise for the second time; it wasn't a great movie but speaking as an adult who likes kids shows, I think that had I been born 15 years later than I was then I would probably have loved it along with the rest of this generation of youngsters.
Still, I don't like their redesigns very much - the new chipmunks look and act rather ugly sometimes. So I decided to draw my first Chipmunks fanart with a bit of aggro coming from their MTV generation counterparts, whom I think are the superior Chipmunks!
I also drew this to honour Ross Bagdasarian Jr, who turned 60 just a day or so ago. Since his father, the creator of The Chipmunks, Ross Bagdasarian Sr (aka David Seville) passed away, Ross Jr has since been in charge of the characters along with his wife Janice Karman.
Oh, and for the record Simon and Alvin were always my fave chipmunks, though I recently have come to like the Chipettes as well ^^

Now that show was the... what's the current slang for something that's the absolute best?
It was produced as a prime-time CBS series so the humor was very often very hip (I remember one episode where Alvin goes solo, but imagines Dave & his brothers reduced to supermarket openings) & the back-up feature was hysterical: self-deluded 'inventor' Clyde Crashcup ("I'll invent the telephone - that's tele for 'tele' and phone for 'phone'"). Once I realized Clyde wasn't part of the 1980's series I quickly passed on it.
Have you seen that fiberglass sculpture of the Chimp punks in the movie theater lobbies? Scary!

Well i hate to your hurt childhood buuut they did start out as puppets looking like real chipmunks or as best they
could looking like real chipmunks and all three look alike sooo the cgi version is the real version with only
small changes then animated UPA chipmunks of the Alvin show even the first album that came out for children
hand the boys drawn looking like Disnies Chip and Dale only with real chipmunks eyes and dressed like a barber shop qaurtet so the cgi version is following the early first design.

I grew up watching the 80's chipmunks too, and it is solely for that reason that I never knew what a proper chipmunk looked like until 10 years later when I saw one outside a window. THAT is why I love the new design. I mean, come on! The 80's chipmunks LOOK NOTHING LIKE CHIPMUNKS!!!
Alright. I agree with that, but you did say you think they "look"ugly too.
A friend of mine had a good way to put it: The first 40 minutes of the movie were good, then it went crap when they started doing that hip-hop s**t."
I still prefer the design of the new chipmunks despite this.

As much as I like and grew up with the old school Chipmunks, I still kinda like the new generation ones also. Mainly because of the fact that they actually look like chipmunks, while the others look like they were kids spliced with chipmunk DNA by Dr. Moreau (or maybe David actually).
I would go with the 80s version since I'm more familiar with it.
Like I said before; when it comes to live-action cartoon movies (WHICH I TOTALLY HATE!!!) it's better to watch the original animated shows instead. It's important to keep our childhoods in tact while we still can.

I saw the very first t.v. show on a local station.About a year or 2 later their was a chirstmas chipmunk cartoon done by chuck jones. The next year rubby spears did the saturday morning cartoon show.Although i think the chipmunks should be taller.Lke in the cartoons but they look o.k.Hey stop by and check out my gallery. You ought to draw your verson of the chipettes.
Hmm, while I have a soft spot for the originals, I love the new designs as well. The attitude just comes with the generation. If I remember correctly, the Alvin of the 80's and 90's wasn't exactly all flowers and sunshine either.
I've seen the sequel, or in this case squeakuel, and it wasn't as bad as I'd heard. If anything, it was a lot of fun. But, then again, to each their own.
