Tyler and Derek talk for the first time. A smaller chapter, but one that begins an interesting interaction between the two.

Monday Morning, 8:32 a.m.
Derek could feel his tail slammed up against the seat of his dark blue denim jeans as we walked into the main entrance of his school. He had tried desperately to de-wolf from his mini wolf-out earlier in the morning, but had been only somewhat successful. To his irritation, he was still patchy hairy throughout his body, making him want to itch all over. Yet worse, his tail refused to dissipate even an inch and his ears were massive in size and pointed upwards for all to see. Knowing he couldn't make another excuse to skip class, he managed to work under the presumption that he could throw some clothes off and he would revert back to his human self over a period of time. Forty minutes later, his wolf ears were brushing uncomfortably under the black beanie he was wearing and his tail felt ridiculously crammed up against the seat of his pants.
"Derek!" The sound of his voice was deafening as he heard it. The pitch of someone else's voice only made him nauseous and wish he had made his excuses and stayed home. Yet he couldn't. Werewolf or not, he had to try to maintain a normal existence.
He could see Tyler Mertens making his way through the crowds of students making their way to homeroom and making a fast dash to their lockers. He knew immediately who it was due to his cocky smile and slicked back hair. He was wearing a yellow t-shirt with brown khaki pants, which emphasized his lean, yet toned body. There was an arrogance even in the way he walked that made Derek feel revolted. However, he could smell the sweat on him. Tyler's scent reeked of nostalgia, yes, but also a distinct scent of apprehension.
Tyler made his way to Derek, giving him an unexpected bro-hug, which made Derek tense and freeze in fear if Tyler were to feel something that felt off. Fortunately, he hasn't.
"So we're going to be closer bros on the field!" Tyler exclaimed excitedly. "I don't know if you heard, but Coach made me the new starting WR. I'm taking over for Ethan."
The wind completely was sucked out of Derek as he heard those words. He instantly felt consumed with guilt. Football was Ethan's life, and regardless if he could justify his actions or not, it was in this moment that he recognized he took away his best friend's passion...allowing for someone else to easily replace him.
Tyler eyed Derek suspiciously. "Don't approve?"
Derek shook his head, snapping himself out of his train of thought. He felt his ears point and grow a little more within his beanie. "I just didn't really think about how bad Ethan was, I guess. I thought...I dunno...maybe he would get better in time."
"Naw, he's obviously out for the season, which sucks, you know." Tyler smiled, flashing his straight teeth that went obscenely well with his flashy light-blue eyes. "I know you guys are close and all, but I was hoping we could get to know each other more. You know, if we're gonna be bros on the field, we outta be bros all the way through, you know."
Derek felt his tail inch a little further, thrusting slightly against the seat of his pants more. Discretely, he clenched his hand against his side as he felt it grow. The entire conversation was only making him feel low and anxious. "We don't have to be anything. There's no pressure to be," he offered Tyler.
"I get it," Tyler said back. "You're a Junior and I'm a Sophomore, but on the field, we're the same inside-and-out."
"Trust me, we're not the same."
"Well, let's get on the same wavelength!" Tyler exclaimed. Derek could tell Tyler actually meant it. He could smell desperation. It contradicted everything he ever knew about him, yet still, there was something opportunistic about him. There had to be.
"How about we start working out together?" Tyler offered. "You can meet me at my gym. They allow me to bring a free guest whenever I come, so you could work out with me for free." Tyler smiled. "You wanna know my secret to football success? It's not sprint running or conditioning, it's squats. If you can master mega weight, your strength on the field intensifies. I can max squat 380. It's why I got a big booty, bro!"
Derek darted a quick glance and knew it to be true about Tyler. He had also seen him on the field and for such a small guy, he had a massive butt. The thought of it made him realize his tail was extending further within his jeans, colliding even further against the fabric.
"I bet your squats probably surpass my own," Tyler said, playing giving Derek's butt a look. "From the glance of this, I bet you squat..."
Tyler cut himself off, staring blatantly at Derek's butt, seeing the noticeable bump in the seat of his pants, sticking out dramatically. "Bro...If I didn't know any better, I'd say you'd have a tail."
Derek immediately shifted his body, backing his butt away from Tyler. He reached back and pushed the bump that was his tail down, forcing it to wiggle down the length of his leg. "It's these damn jeans. They keep bunching up. Friggin' annoying."
"I know what that's like, I guess." Tyler felt awkward. Something felt off. "Well...uh...if you're interested in..." He couldn't complete his sentence.
"Yep," Derek volunteered nervously. "See you later."
Tyler nodded and walked away, glancing over his shoulder once at Derek curiously before making his way to homeroom.
The bell rang as Derek readjusted, sure his tail would stay secured downward against his leg. It was uncomfortable and tickled some, but he thought it was manageable. He pulled his beanie down and made his way to class.
