Daily life was significantly less exciting than the adventures Markus once had with Fane but oftentimes it proved just as exhausting.
Fane's gaze moved from the book in his hands as he heard the door unlock with a click and ever-so-slowly swing open with a creak. A moment later a figure stumbled through and stopped in the doorway prompting Fane to shake his head as he closed his book and stood up.
Markus was barely standing on his legs, swaying side to side, drifting somewhere between dream and reality. In a few steps the skeleton was beside Markus. He put one hand on the human shoulder and gently guided the sleep-deprived man inside before closing the door. "You really need to start sleeping more, you know." Fane pointed out.
Noting the boney hand on his shoulder Markus followed Fane's lead, mumbling some sort of greeting in response. His eyes were closed and he seemed to be on the verge of collapsing. Before he could though, he found himself in a tight loving embrace.
Two pale hands gripped onto Fane's arms and he couldn't help but chuckle. He felt a cheek pressing into his wrist and for a brief unseen moment allowed himself a genuine smile.
Calm peaceful breathing came soon after; Markus was already asleep.
