During my travel to Japan I took a tour through Hiroshima and Miyajima island for a whole day, including the famous Torii Gate and shrine. There were a lot of deer on the island, and not that shy either! They seemed to be okay with tourists getting up close, and seemed to be pretty relaxed. I heard they could be aggressive, which might be more the case in Nara, which I didn't make it there this time but plan to for the next!
