The elders of each tribe live a long life where their wisdom forms. This chief sits upon a stump, gesturing as he tells his stories. He's marked by years of tattoos that map his journey through life. He is respected and follows the ways of his tribal ancestors, teaching the youth the ways of the world.
I made this one-of-a-kind gourd sculpture for a Gourd Art Competition, where it won 1st place in the "open pen&ink" category. He's a minimal figure made solely from gourds and pieces, 7 in all. The only clay used was to fill in seams. His entire surface is drawn with a pigma brush pen.

Thanks! Yeah my original intention was to leave the head (and hands/feet) without tattoos. It was to draw the eye to the body and marks rather than having a face to look at... but peer pressure got to me. XD I have the previous version on Facebook here:
