I personally love the idea of Kodi and Dusty as a couple. However that is not what was intended fore the film (I can not site a source, but Phil Weston the Director of Balto 2 and 3 said in an interview said that Ralph and Dusty were intended to be mates. However they were not able to get that point across in the film. He also said that Kodi was not intended to be gay.) Kodi's story-arch was not about romance, but about him wanting to eventually become The Lead Dog of the sled team (I think Kirby realized this). Kodi leading his teammates to the aid of Balto and Duke might indicate that he is ready to be The Lead Dog. However it is anybody's if Kirby steeped aside for Kodi (or if Mr. Simpson would put Kodi in the lead biassed on how Kirby acted).

If "Balto" 4 comes out this December as it is rumored too ( I won't hold my breath) Depending on what the story is I think There could be a Kodi/Dusty romance Aleu and her Pack could return (Aleu would likely have a mate and possibly pups now.)
