First supplementary image for my contribution to the anthology Encounters of the Imaginary Vol. 3! This piece illustrates the verdant abbey garden, inspired by the seminary grounds next to my home where you can wander the surrounding forest until your heart is content, and find curious old stones, structures, and headstones amongst the greenery.

My chosen creature to illustrate and write about was the Gargoyle, and I'll soon submit the rest of the works that accompany this one as well as the story.
For now, here's a bit of flavor text from the passage:
“ The work was unceasing, but the sunshine and light breeze made it a cheerful chore. The small abbey’s grounds were verdant and far reaching, enclosed by a mighty forest. So mighty, that despite much upkeep, the monastery itself was threatened to be consumed by creeping ivy, which clung to its walls and swallowed up a few unlucky gargoyles. Beyond the leafy enclosure, the nearest village could only be spied from the highest tower above the trees, where the priory bells hung and only the most tenacious of small vines could win hold.
Tom went about his duty all afternoon, clearing weeds and ivy from the garden bed. He was surprised to find budding sprouts beneath the tangle of green, clue to its past full of flowers. As he ripped and tore, greenery yielded to stone carved claws and scales revealing a long lost, forgotten gargoyle upon a granite slab, his mind now again on those mysterious stone sentinels. He wondered if it were really alive. Could it see him now, or was it asleep? Perhaps it could hear him. "
