This cute portrait is from
ARCR-CRic, and the couple is Sandina, and Dawnde from my story "H8" (https://www.furaffinity.net/view/21427846/)
I was very impressed with Arcr's feral look to his anthros, in contrast to the more stylized of other artists. Since these two are true 'uplifted' deer (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Uplift_(science_fiction)) I wanted him to bring these two to life. Set in the 30th century after humans started uplift in the 21-23rd century, this couple is on another planet. What they're thinking is up to you.
There may be more prints coming from this story in the future. Keep watching.

Talking to an uplift (or in my storyworld, "Plentycael") is something I've been struggling to portray in my storyworlds for years. If it wasn't SF based it wouldn't matter. But since I stepped into it, It's a lot harder.
At least now, I'm starting to get a clue, after all my psychology classes including my animal psychology course.
As for evolved from another animal, I wrote a story where a human girl meets a "Lizard man" (her words) who was from another planet. But unknown to her, he is the descendant of the highest order of dinosaur that was alive, just before the asteroid hit, 65 million years ago. Now evolved into sapience, they roam the galaxy, and know that Earth was their ancient homeworld.
Yes...Interesting development there :)

It isn't to put myself into another animal, including a wild one like deer. Although I've observed, and read so much about them. They still are very much a mystery. I think one big problem is they're so fixed on scent and that's something we don't have much experience in.
As for apes. One of my classes was animal psychology, and we studied the book 'Chimpanzee Politics' and it was errily close to how humans act. But deer? Deer are so completely different.
However I can see that the entire plentycael class has a sort of duality mind. While we are still driven by instincts but at a very muted level, Plentycaels I can see are more closely driven by insincts, and only by the application of learning with the sapient mind can they hold away their instincts. A big example, in my story 'Night of the beast' Bala has to endure 2 weeks of storms. The Anikawi (in which she is) usually stay with an older Anikawi to help them though the fear of lightning and thunder.
It's a challenge, yes. But lots of fun :)

It's hard for a lot of people. About 10 years ago, I bought a book "The way of the whitetail"
https://www.amazon.com/Leonard-Lee-...../dp/0896584178 and he pointed out a lot I didn't know, but even he admited there is so
much still unknown. I can only imagine what it'd be like to have a world based so strongly on scent. -- I tried to think of something and
drew a blank :).
Yes, instinct comes from the deepest and oldest parts of our brain, and from what some military people have told me, it takes intense
training to get around some of those instincts. But then you can see it also causes problems too.
You raised a good point, about clash of values, one thing I never really thought of. I've had a sort of prime directive with the Plentycaels
which says "One doesn't hunt or attack two leggers" (meaning other plenys, or humans) but it would be impossible to fully enforce. Just like
humans war with other humans. But what happens when a Plenty does attack a human? Ooo...
Begin to read? Well for this I can point out a few already. Know that there is about a dozen stories in the pipeline, in various states of
finishing. But the ones available now, that involves true Plentycaels are:
http://www.furaffinity.net/view/23636982/ (The majik doll, a flash fiction, YA/MA story)
http://www.furaffinity.net/view/21427846/ (H8)
http://www.furaffinity.net/view/17348707/ (The Leave taking)
Another that I asked a pro to look at to help me with it, is here:
https://docs.google.com/document/d/.....d-y93zFuI/edit
(It's about 7 years old, so it's loaded with inaccuracies, and problems. But I have plans for it.)
The thing to look for, is how the plentycaels act. H8 was the one that started it all. My friend who brought me into the fur community said that he saw many furs that are like 'humans in fur suits' I believe those could be called the stylized furs. I brought a sf aspect by use of uplift as you'll see in H8. From there I've been steadily working out this storyworld.
You showed I need to write up a document about my works since it seems now I'm starting to become what I've wanted all this time. So I'll let you see a beta of it when it's done

That's a good point "... If I were working with a feral model, straight-up human behavior would certainly seem a bit weird. The more feral a character is or looks, the more one expects to see the animal side shining through..." I think that's what's kind of thrown me, before. I saw it too 'black and white' without the possibly of other ways.
Very soon I'll have more out there now that the stress is over with me. That seems to be one of my blocks of mine, and I'm actively working on trying to finish a bunch of stories I've had. All will be here.
