Heliana is one of the main characters of the New Alveri Chronicles, an interwoven collection of three planned stories, one of which features a certain, chubby blue Sea dragon.

Heliana belongs to a breed of dragon called Sea Stormers who are proud fishers and dwell both in sea cliff caverns and beneath the water itself. This breed is striking in appearance due to the quantity of blubber they wear on their bodies to protect them from the deep ocean cold.

Heliana is actually a lighter specimen of the breed and she has tried to keep her weight down for her passion of long-distance and high altitude flying. Ever since she was a young dragonet, Heliana has aspired to become a member of the Preservers, a group of dragons dedicated to protecting ships and those who ply the dangerous sea for the sake of trade, which is the lifeblood of the empire.

Heliana thus joined the 'Junior Preservers' at a young age and learned many valuable skills along with actually saving the lives of sailors on multiple occasions. Despite her accomplishments, however, she was repeatedly denied entry into the actual Preservers, which is a male-dominated society. Rejected for the final time and no longer even able to remain with the Junior Preservers on account of her age, Heliana's story begins with her feeling dejected, lost and listless in her own life, isolated even from the other (and larger, and rounder) members of her own family.
