A while back, when I drew this Sweeney Todd scribble, it was a conversation between
dinadan and I who said that the demon barber should have a little cameo in The Shadow of the Dog Lord. So it was a no brainer when I was randomly generating characters today and rolled a male fox rogue while listening to the Sweeney Todd soundtrack to make him, albeit slightly less demonic than in the film.
The rogue class has always been hard for me to accept in civilised roleplaying games, particularly in The Lord of the Rings. Yes, they may spy on the enemy, seek out treasure, and other rogue stuff, but what do they have to do to get that information or treasure? I once played as a rogue in D&D who did the absolute most despicable acts, but because he got what the PC's wanted every single time, they turned a blind eye (and the NPC's did too :o ).
It's sort of like fighting fire with fire. How do you spy on the ultimate evil, or steal its prized weapons? You eventually have to stoop to some form of evil to do it. The trick is knowing, like Batman does, what the line is, and when to not cross it.
Of course, this is of no use in Dog Lord, since most of the foes are artificially created, and so need to be destroyed in order to bring peace to the world.
...
I imagine this guy as being the son of a barber who was killed by servants of Fenrir, and now gets back at them, not only by adventuring, but by his superior barber skills. When a captain or sorcerer comes to his parlour unannounced, they'll brag to the humble barber and he'll off them once he has the information he wants.
Enjoy!
