I wanted a model to practice rigging, and I realized if I took the time to create a detailed mesh, I would never get to the rigging part, so my first option was to use a mesh already available, but they were both too complex for my beginner skills, and had no furry features I wanted to be able to rig.
Also, for a while I had taught about a "sketch character", the 3D equivalent of a stick figure, so I decided to fulfill both needs with a single model, and here it is: Basic-Shape Cat.
For now it's only the mesh (composed only of slightly deformed cylinders and cubes), and now I can get to the rigging part.
And now some useless tidbits:
This entire mesh has less polygons than Kio's head (so either this one has too few, of Kio has way too many, maybe both).
For this pose (high quality, big canvas, still image) I used one million hairs, and it took 2 minutes to render, other tests I've done, with animation settings and 200,000 hairs, take 20 seconds per frame, so I will be able to animate without too much trouble.
Originally I wanted it to be a black leopard (my favorite kind), but I could not find a good reference picture, so I settled for a snow leopard (which, by the way, is the first texture I've done, so comment on it).

Basic-Shape Cat is Basic-Shaped.
Interesting. Very well done fur. I like this pattern. *nod* I dunno if it's just because of it being shapes, but he seems to be shiny in spots, like his fur is reflective. Highly noticable on the right arm.
In the basic-shape mode the head looks very much like a balloon pinched and pulled at one spot for the muzzle.
