He heard a noise from somewhere nearby; was that water running..? He had a sudden panic that maybe, the stall’s attendant had just popped to do some ‘business’ in the nearby toilets, and was about to walk back out and catch him at it, would notice right away there was a load of cups missing – and only one possible culprit!
He stepped back from the stall, intending to turn and make a hasty retreat, when the toilet door gave a loud ‘click’ as it unlocked, and swung open. He spun around.
“Ah! Oh, er, I was just…” he began – before realising he was addressing empty space. He glanced downward; a child, maybe..?
His jaw dropped as he realised that, emerging timidly from the gents’ toilets, was not a man, nor a boy – not any kind of human at all – but was instead some sort of reptile, just about three feet tall, with greenish scales and a bright, slightly obnoxious cyan-blue shirt.
There was a startled moment when both man and lizard seemed utterly petrified at seeing one another; but then, in a flurry of movement, Friedrich stumbled back and nearly tripped over the drinks stall, while the lizardman jumped back and let the door swing shut, giving a faint, surprised little yelp.
Friedrich stood for a long moment. What the hell was that?! Surely… his eyes must be playing tricks on him, there was no such thing as… whatever that was!
But he was sure he HAD just seen it. And he could hear faint scraping sounds, faint movement, from the other side of the door.
“H…hello?” he said, feeling pretty unsure of himself, and half-expecting to wake up at any moment. “Hello? I’m… I’m not going to hurt you… who are you? What… what are you?” he asked, quietly.
A faint, slightly high-pitched, slightly nervous voice sounded from the other side of the door. “… hi?” it said, sounding very unsure; nervous, but definitely no child, despite the high pitch. “Are… er… who’s there?”
“My name’s Friedrich… who are you?” Friedrich said, kneeling down, feeling a little more confident all of a sudden. The voice sounded practically terrified; whatever this little creature was, it clearly wasn’t some dangerous animal. Heck, it was clothed – albeit in rather poor taste.
“S…sovandar…” the voice replied. “Er… you saw me..? And you’re not… running away, or… going to tell anyone?”
Friedrich shrugged. “Well… no. I guess not, if you’d rather I didn’t… I wouldn’t do that, not without knowing anything about you.” he began. “Er… what are you? I’ve not seen anything like… you, before.”
The lock clicked softly, and the door opened very slightly, revealing a nervous, slitted reptilian eye. “Promise you won’t hurt me?” the lizard said.
“Promise”, Friedrich said.
