Our story here begins with high school junior named Twyla Rockwell in Parkersburg, West Virginia. A little over eighteen years ago, Twyla's life was spared from a potentially fatal car accident by a mysterious stranger with red eyes known only as "Elias". The young man named Elias was, like Twyla herself, a wolf, but unlike her, Elias could sprout wings and fly. Apart from that, Elias could also see into the future. Little did she know then, but Twyla encountered a creature from an alien world. Elias often traveled the country helping people wherever he could through the power of his tremendous gifts, and it was these gifts that led the high school-aged entity to West Virginia. Shortly thereafter, Twyla and Elias became close and later conceived a child. Unfortunately, Elias was murdered several months after Wilis' birth. The reason and culprits behind the crime were never discovered. Forced to raise Wilis herself, Twyla struggled to rear her son and attend Criminology courses at West Virginia University in Morgantown. Twenty years after the accident, Twyla has since married a man she first met in Morgantown and became Deputy Chief of Police in Parkersburg.

Wilis grew up never knowing his father or the particulars inherent to his own unique heritage. The red wolf inherited Elias' gift of prophecy but also his gift of disaster manipulation. Apart from being not of this world, Elias was then the current incarnation of the legendary Mothman. The creature whose appearance preceded the Silver Bridge collapse is actually Wilis' paternal grandfather. The red wolf knows this truth and is also aware that he is, in fact, the third Mothman. When the young man accesses his power set to a specific degree, he sprouts large black wings, grows a whole foot taller, his gray eyes become red and thick black feathers coat Wilis' entire body. In this form, his powers are wholly uncontrollable; and it is this beastly form that Wilis fears. The red wolf has long sought to control his formidable powers, but without the aid of his alien father, it's proven especially difficult.

However, a strange man, himself a wolf, with a perennial grin has been watching over Wilis since the young man was born. The Pleasant Stranger, as Wilis knows him, often appears in the red wolf's dreams, at times offering guidance where often there is none. Although, the red wolf does appreciate the man's guidance, The Pleasant Stranger has an agenda of his own, and Wilis fears that it may not be of his highest and best interest.
