In Greek mythology, the Minotaur is a savage bull-headed man born from the Queen Pasiphaë and from a white bull, Poseidon having made her fall in love with this animal to punish the king of Crete Minos (Poseidon had made him king if in exchange he had sacrificed it to him, but Minos sacrificed another animal). Minos, thinking he was his son, hid him on an island in a gigantic labyrinth made by Daedalus. Every 9 years, Athen had to deliver 7 young men and 7 young women to serve as dinner for the Minotaur. The king of Athens Aegeus' son Theseus would volunteer, would kill him, and would be able to get out of the labyrinth thanks to princess Ariadne's thread, in love with him.
