In Roman folklore and mythology, strixes are winged demonesses (even if we are starting to see males in pop culture like this drawing) very similar to vampires and witches. They let out a shrill cry and mostly kill babies, kidnapping them in their talons, breastfeeding them with their poisonnous milk and sucking their blood. The legend reached the Saxons who thought they ate and sucked the blood of any human whatever the age and one had to kill one with fire then eat her flesh in order to no longer be attacked by others.
