Decided to upload a more recent photo ID doing what I love - shooting my longbow! This was taken back in August this year at one of our 3-D shoots with me and my group of fellow trad archers in my area.
So much fun being out in the woods and shooting at targets from various angles, positions and distances. The stake you see I'm kneeling at is what we call the "Stake Game" on a set course of targets the person who makes the best shot in the group (usually between 4-8 of us) gets to take the stake and choose the next spot where everyone must shoot from on the next target. Any angle, distance and location is fair game - typically it's challenging shots with brush, trees and a narrow window to squeeze an arrow through, in this case it was all the above + taking a kneeling shot.
Ton of fun and a great competitive way to hone your shooting skills ^^ Pictured is my favorite bow, it's made by CTA (Carpathian Traditional Archery), their model called the Red Stag pulling 57# @ 28" (about 55# at my 27" draw length).

Thanks man! I've been told I have a high elbow (on the draw hand; the 'perfect' form is when everything is lined up - elbow, arm, hand and arrow), and that I should lower it slightly, but I found I don't shoot as well when I do. I shoot much better with my elbow raised; so if it's not broke, don't fix it!
Exactly, everybody's different stick with what works for you and it don't matter what other people think. I remember the time one guy said it, he suggested I lower my elbow on the next target, so I shot at a target with the elbow lowered and missed the target, he was dumbfounded (it really felt weird and it threw me off), he was like "Ok then shoot like you normally do" so I shot on the next target with my elbow raised like i'm used to and pinwheeled the target in the 11 ring lol! He just shook his head and never gave me any more crap lol
Oh very nice! Mind if I ask what recurve? (brand and specs) I personally prefer the look of a one piece longbow, it just looks more 'traditional' imo. But nothing wrong with shooting recurves, modern or wooden, traditional is traditional, we all use the same skill set to send the arrow down range
I see, yeah a lot of times they modify them, get different limbs for risers if they are take downs. That’s really cool though, glad you love shooting Traditional ^^ I can’t get enough of it, I’m going again this weekend with my club for another day of fun, this time shooting aerial target with flu flus I used to shoot compounds when I was in my teens but now that I tried traditional, I’ll never go back to modern bows
absolutely! I don't normally take pictures while in the field, I'm usually chatting with a few guys in our group about archery, equipment or such and leave the picture taking up to our photographer XD I've been thinking of doing a partial suit one day of my character Hunter, but idk when that will be, whenever I save enough money for the partial suit and make the outfit for him ^^
It may be another couple of years, idk, the one suit maker I want to get it done through is closed for commissions, and I still need to get enough 'materials' to make the outfit for him (going to be buckskin; I would love to make it myself, but I'll see how that goes - may end up buying the buckskin and making the outfit). But once I get it done, I will for sure have it posted on my gallery
Thanks dude! That quiver is a Selway slip on I bought from 3riversarchery and it works great! it can hold up to 5 arrows and it does add a little weight to the bow but I've gotten use to shooting it with it on. This is my primary hunting bow which is why I put the quiver on the bow instead of roaming through the woods with a bow and back quiver, my selfbows and my other target longbow I just use a back quiver. It helps with having arrows in close access just in case I need a back up shot or something (have yet to need to, but it's there just in case lol).
