Note - I need BG ideas. I was originally planning to have him in an underwater cave (where light bounces off loads of places) but if anyone has any ideas, give them.
Drew this a few months ago and colored most... Then stopped for some strange reason. I think it was before my depression kicked in to the point that I lost myself... Anyway, took it and finished the coloring tonight.
I think the original intent I had going was to show that not all dragons, drakes, and similar things have to be beautiful and, if one were to ever pop up in nature, it would probably have a more naturalistic look and texture.
Being nocturnal, this particular species prefers to stay around humid, dank areas such as caves, underwater basins, and the deeper regions of rainforests (around rivers, particularly), specially during the day. It uses the red crest and waddle for mating purposes. Also during mating season will the male drake hop and flap it's wings in a dance display for possible hours to attract and entice a female into mating. Scientists assume through studies that the drake will use the golden membrain to reflect off moon or water light to attract larger insects and other light-beckoned critters. It has also been rumored that the drake will use it's spiked tail to lure and spear fish.
Tools used - .07 mechanical pencil, scanner, PSP9, and one tired mouse.
