Nice~! I'm a huge fan of energy draining myself! It's New to me since I never thought about draining anything other than souls before :P But there is a lot 9f overlap between draining energy or other things, and draining one of their soul (after all, energy is all the soul really is after being harnessed right~?)
For me I say yes aaand no. Really it can be variable as much as vore (and other kink for that matter). Like you can make the soul fuse with yours, keep it separate, but still in your possession/body, and so on. And im glad you're into energy draining x3 A lot of people I know that say they are into energy draining are really more into size/muscle draining and that's not what i'm into at all.
Honestly that variance is part of what I love about soul vore, the only limit is ones imagination! XD Makes it very fun to see what other people can come up with :P
And yeah, I've found that too. Draining muscle or fat, etc doesn't do much for me, but draining intangible things like soul, energy, mana, intelligence, personality and so forth, being left looking exactly the same on the outside but so much emptier inside? That's what really does it for me x3
