Still working on some of the pencil technique I picked up this weekend. I decided to try it on my oldest character. I like the way he came out.

Surprisingly, the technique is really simple. To get it really true to nature, which I didn't do and I should have, you will need a quick reference sheet for the direction of the fur grain.
Basically, its just use small lines in the direction of the fur grain. Then smudge them a little and relayer. If its getting too dark, use an eraser edge and draw with that to lighten it.
Watch for little things as fur tends to make little pockets and holes in itself that show up dark, they make shadows and pits.
The biggest thing Kyoht told all of us when she showed us this was to use your reference to help get the texture.
And the only true way to ever manage it is to try it! ;) I need to keep at it.
