The key is for the hair to be one movement. Just do it the way your hand wants to do it. Experiment.

the margay is a beautiful cat creature that no one ever remembers they exsist and i love this drawing they are so beautiful there color is stunning when you see there actual color that is but this is just a gorgious

However, that becomes rather difficult when the new (at the time skittish) house cat singles you out to bathe completely while purring like a lawn mower. Eventually I broke down and went "awwww..." and from there it was all over.
