before you go a call me "racist" i gotta ponder and ask: is there any black characters in the harry potter books? obviously i haven't read them, and i just watch the films. i can only recall seeing one black kid in the movies.
so i take this as conclusive evidence that J. K. Rowling is a racist. just like J. R. R. Tolkien. there's like zero black people in lord of the rings, even the savages aren't black. those racist bastards!

Considering the majority of people on these art sites are American, it doesn't surprise me that a lot of people wouldn't know that England has a fair few black citizens. As well as the fact that America doesn't show much of English TV programmes on TV like they do here in Australia.
( It is necessary to emphasize that they are the most important, but in the movies and books they appear more)

Though I suppose for a movie cast of extras, you should really try to put in a realistic sampling of the world around you. Meaning if you have x amount of people in the world you should have a scaled back number of those people in the melting pot of extras.
So maybe it is a little racist. Though unless the book specifically describes a character as a certain ethnicity or by a certain skin color, I don't see how you can tell what race they are anyways.
But do note that Rowling (and Tolkien) are British, ya know, land of whities. Ya know what...I never see anyone complain about lack of "diversity" in Italian, French, Nordic (Icelandic, Swedish, etc) films - only American and British.
I suppose it's all relative to where the movie is made.

However, I must offer what I know of the Harry Potter storyline here. One of the important secondary character is Kingsley Shacklebolt http://harrypotter.wikia.com/wiki/K.....ey_Shacklebolt is Black. Kingsley is an Auror (Auror is a member of an elite unit of the Department of Magical Law Enforcement of the Ministry of Magic trained to capture Dark wizards and witches) and a member of the 2nd Pheonix Order. You'll see more of Kingsley in the coming movie, since he is going to succeed someone important will be KIA soon in the coming movie (if my memory serves).

As for black brits, there's actually a lot of them, just like there's Koreans living in Russia. Or people from Indians (from india not native american) and Japanese living in Jamaica (yes they develope a jamaican accent). They identify themselves by where they live.

That's why he's only HALF black.
Also, Blaise Zabini is not black. They just made him so in the movie, and yeah, he is totally not pretty in the movies like he's supposed to be. If you look at his name you can see that Zabini is an Italian name while Blaise is a French name. So he's dark, but more of that Mediterranean dark than actual African dark. Get your facts right people.
Lee Jordan, Dean Thomas, Kingsley Shacklebolt and Angelina Johnson are main characters who are black. If there are others they're too minor for me to remember them.
