Yeaaaaahhhh, I'm gonna have to STRONGLY disagree with the whole "single player games are dying" thing. I mean, aside from the fact that EA started that piece of BS and we see the state of affairs that they're in. And the failure of Battlefront 2 as well as the already looming disaster that is Battlefield V and the plummeting sales of their other current titles, not to mention the number of lawsuits against them from other nations' governments around the world. If anything, online multiplayers are suffering from various sources such as the debacle of lootboxes and paywalls, while single-player games are mostly thriving. Case-in-point, one of the currently most-hyped and expected games in development right now which is a single-player: Cyberpunk 2077. Can't wait!
I like your argument, and I don't think they're dying, but companies are pushing them REALLY hard. Cyberpunk 2077 in CD Project Red, who are just fantastic in general. But they're small fish compared to the major companies like EA and Bethesda who are pushing multiplayer /online down everyone's throats.
I think there's going to be a major resurgence of singleplayer, but for now, multiplayer is still the big thing.

CDPR isn't actually that small anymore, especially with the huge success of the Witcher series; their net worth is well over $1 billion now while Bethesda is only $3 billion. And let's not forget how CDPR become what it is now; Optimus S.A., the already-large company that bought out CDPR was already a public company (public stock). Then later, CDPR took over Optimus S.A. and now controls most of the company's board. That's like Wal-Mart buying the mom & pop store on the corner, then a week later mom and pop walk into WalMart's Board of Directors' meeting and kicks them out of their chairs while saying "Okay kids, this is how things are going to go from now on."
Speaking of the Witcher series, you should look up the shenanigans that the author of the Witcher books is trying to pull right now, friggin hilarious.

Long story sort-of short:
Andrzej Sapkowski, author of the Witcher books, sold the complete rights for the Witcher series to CDPR to make the story into the games. He sold said rights for a mere $9,500 USD. CDPR offered to give him royalties from all profits of the games but he refused saying, "No, there will be no profit at all - give me all my money right now. The whole amount." He had zero faith in the success of the games.
Now, after seeing the massive success that the games have had, he is now trying to sue CDPR for $16 MILLION USD. And his lawyer even wrote an extremely threatening letter to CDPR citing BS precedents and thinly veiled threats of blackmail and coercion, evening going so far to threaten to "take the matter public", which would make CDPR suffer damages and "ruin their reputation". What's the first thing CDPR did? They posted the letter on the front page of their website and basically told the guy and his lawyer to go fuck himself. And their stocks actually rose several points after that. And that makes me love CDPR even more, lol.
The hilarious part is that Dmitry Glukhovsky, author of "Metro 2033" which was also turned into a game, gave his opinion of the Witcher author: "I think that he's totally wrong, and that he's an arrogant motherfucker."
Furthermore, the author also cites that the game sales have hurt his book sales. The reality of the matter is that before the games, the books were very obscure and unknown, even in his home country of Poland. The games gave a massive boost to the books. The Witcher author simply hates video games and gamers in general and is throwing a temper tantrum.
