No, In this image, the bullet, AND the casing is being fired.
In reality, the brass casing is what holds the gunpowder, and never leaves the firearm. The lead/copper jacketed round is what actually leaves the firearm through the muzzle. Casings are usually ejected out from the the sides of the firearm.
