I could feel something was off the moment I stepped foot in that patch.
Sure, I wanted a pumpkin for a pumpkin pie recipe I was making, but I didn't think it would be so... eerie just to grab a pumpkin from the local patch.
"Quite a few pumpkins this year." I remarked with a whistle, shaking my feet a bit to remove the hairs from the pumpkin vines that had nestled into my pads. Of course, when I shook my foot, that feeling didn't seem to go away.
Urk. I didn't like having to lift my foot up. With such a round belly on my midriff, it made it hard to see... but it seemed I had to do it now. Lifting my foot up, I was thankful that I was at least flexible... up until any point when my belly got in the way. I scratched at its base with a hand and felt... a vine. Confused, I yanked at it, expecting it to fall off, but the strength of my pull, and the stubbornness of the vine caused me to flip onto my backside with a thump.
"What... what gives?" I remarked, lifting an arm up in confusion, as I felt a bit of a prick on my hand. To my awestruck horror, there was a vine attached to it, and it looked like it was pulsing some... weird stuff into my hand.
"Wait! Stop!" I said, flustered at my situation. I tried to pull the vine off, but the more I pulled the more it felt like I was pulling on my own body. At that point, it might as well have been the case, as my hand had started to turn green with spindly fingers. My arms became heavy and hard to move as I felt gravity slowly take them to the ground... and shortly after, into it.
"Staaahaaaa-" I wanted to command these vines to stop, but I was interrupted as I felt something attach to the top of my head. At that moment, I could truly feel whatever this "liquid" was that was pulsing into me. It stung at first, making me cringe the best I could, but after a bit, I could feel a euphoria.
Happily, I greeted another vine that stuck itself into my nose. It seemed so powerful how it moved through my nostril. I could see it displace my skin, and make it grow an orange color. It continued until it vanished somewhere into my face... probably my brain, maybe? I think that's what it was, but I knew another vine was already there, pulsing its fluids into me.
I was enjoying myself now. I could barely feel my fingers branch out and make themselves rooted into the ground. A small bit of tightness around my neck snapped me back for a moment, however, as my green shirt ripped around the girth of my growing, orange belly.
"W-wait!" I said weakly, as my ability to speak disappeared. "I don't wan-" I gulped, feeling my vocal chords vanishing to make room for... seeds.
I tried to lift my arms, but they were already branching deeper into the patch, unable to truly move at all anymore. My feet had already done the same, but with all my panic I did not notice my pants were coming undone and my feet were disforming from their usual paw-like shape to more... branchy roots.
I could see glimpses of a vine attached to my bellybutton. I never felt it, but it was there, and with each pulse of yellow light my belly grew, widening in an orange pastel color as the cream fur I once had became hard and fleshy.
I finally gave up, realizing that this euphoric feeling was too much for me to handle. Resting my head down, I could feel my chin sink into my chest, and within moments I no longer had a jaw. I closed my eyes, taking a deep breath as my body started to go numb... and the world faded around me.
I felt nothing for a while, but then felt something... pick me up and cut me open.
Whatever just happened to me, I couldn't feel the pain, but I knew immediately -- I would make a great pumpkin pie.
