What program do you use?

Aesprite, which was made for pixel art and animation. It's really good, though not free but $15 is a really good price for it. You can try it for free though.

AFAIK; You can *legally* get aseprite for free as its source code is open to everyone, and you can build/compile the program by yourself, but you can't share thoses binaries. as a linux user it's relatively easy to build the program but there should be a tutorial in the web; but remember that it's illegal to download binaries (aka .exe files for windows) if you don't own the software, but making binaries by yourself is free, you can check the licence the software code is under and see if I'm right, maybe they changed their licence; it's been a long time I didn't use aseprite ^^'

-- but yeah, don't remember that it's supporting the authors to buy the software, but I don't really have money to invest into software yet :')

Interesting, I did not know that. Though for me, I'd rather pay the $15 and just download new versions when they come out. It's a really good price for software like that.
