Well, LeeLee said she wanted new species, so here we are, my entry for your contest hun.
The Cliff Raptor (also a microraptor hybrid, but the name is shorter this way ^_^).
Although nearly identical to microraptor hybrids, the cliff variety have some key behavioral and visual differances.
Found in northern Canada, Scotland, and Ireland, the cliff raptor nests high up the sides of mountains, in small rocky outcroppings.
They have larger wings than most raptors, but are a gliding species, relying on the size of their wingspan to keep them aloft. Also unlike most raptors, they have external ears, covered in soft downy feathers, and dark "eyelash-like" feathers around their eyes.
Cliff raptors have longer feathers on their heads and tails, and display a peculiar "human" behavior, scratching holes in brightly coloured stones and "beading" these feathers, many females even choose stones which match the colour of their eyes. This behavior also causes problems for the raptors, as younger members of the species may use too many of these beads, upsetting their balance when gliding and sometimes leading to death.
Cliff raptors are also less agressive than their cousins, and because of their imprinting habits in childhood, are regarded as excellent pets. Eggs are often stolen from the nests of young raptors, built too close to the ground.
This species tends to have lightly coloured feathers, with bright and sometimes flourecent tips, although their pads and claws are exclusively grey and black, respectively.
