Cheetahs are good Sprinters, but they are not Marathon Runners. What would give Thirty Seconds worth of Speed, they need around Seven to Thirty minutes to recover from.
Any longer than Thirty Seconds, and that Poor Cheetah Girl would shatter half her bones in her legs, if not completely Tear apart her ligaments in her hip and spinal Column on top of that.
So between loosing a short Race to loosing her ability to even walk again? Which would you think she would take?

Completely false. Cheetahs can only sprint at maximum speed for around 30 seconds, but not because of any risk of injury, but because of fatigue and overheating. At slower speeds they can run for much longer, and are still quite fast.

Fatigue and Overheating are the extremely Minor cases. Those happen when the Cheetah isn't desperate.
The ones that I mentioned? Major cases that have happened and are more common than you think. Usually occurs when the Cheetah is desperate, like the Racer was implied here.
Now remember that this is supposed to be a Race at FULL TILT, none of that "Slower Pacing" nonsense?

Those injuries cannot occur from any level of sprinting (most specifically the bone shattering). Prove me wrong please, and that's not sarcasm, I'd love to learn something new. I'm not counting attack related injuries, just running plain and simple.
Also for relevant sake of argument mice are slow as heck. They aren't even fast for their size.

Also, after some slight research, the over-heating seems to be a myth. Which should be obvious logically (I only believed it because of it being commonly cited) as 30 seconds of maximum exertion for all mammal species probably does not affect body temperature significantly and certainly does not cause death or serious harm.
