Here another drawing I did of one of America's iconic American built locomotives. An F40PH-2 for a commuter train line I grow up with Caltrain.
Here the story to the engine.
The locomotive was built by Electro-Motive Division (EMD) in several variants from 1975 to 1992. The locomotive was design after two EMD locomotive's FP45 (Both Freight and Passenger) Locomotive and there Freight Road switcher GP40-2.
The original built were called F40PH:
F - Full width cowl body.
40 - 40th Locomotive in the series of engines built.
P - Passenger Locomotive.
H - Equipped with Head End Power (HAP) Generator.
Locomotive Statistics:
EMD 645E3, V16 Diesel.
3000 Horsepower.
B-B Wheels
Length: 56 ft. 2in (17,1 m)
Width: 10 ft 7 in (3.23 m)
Height: 15 ft 7.5 in (4.76 m)
Loco weight: 260,000β282,000 lb (117,934β127,913 kg)
Top speed 110 mph (177 km/h)
Caltrain order 20 F40's no.900 - 920 between 1980 and 1990. Between 1985 - 1989 EMD built the F40PH-2 this variant of the F40 had 3200 more Horsepower. It was bought for two railroads, Caltrain and Chicago's RTA (Modern day Metra)
This lead to Caltrain's F40PH's being upgrade to F40PH-2's, In 1999 Caltrain in partnership with Alstom (French Locomotive builder) Upgrade and updated F40's into F40PH-2CAT's Theses were F40PH-2's with a Caterpillar 6-cylinder HEP generator's.
