Please read descriptions guys. XD
I just finished up another article for Corel Painter Magazine (http://www.paintermagazine.co.uk/). It was by far my longest article. I talk about painting snow and ice and go into detail about brushes and workspace set up and how awesome colour is.
I used a lot of different brushes for this. You will have to get the magazine when it comes out next month if you wanna know about it. If you want to learn Painter, it doesn't hurt to take a look through the magazine because there is usually something pretty cool in there anyway.
Created in Corel Painter X using a tiny stinkin' Graphire for half of it cause I left my Intuos3 in Keovi's car! It was like painting with blunt crayola crayons after using an .005 technical pen.
Dingbat, this is not markers. I'm sorry. :C

I think it goes without saying how much I love your work, Vantid, and this is no exception! Simply gorgeous. The mountains, snow, and isolation of country living are all things I covet. Man, I can almost hear that stream bubbling on by as I step out the front door to go collect firewood. <3
That's an awesome new resource (paintermagazine.co.uk/) Vantid and it sounds like you've presented a wonderful example and explanation of a lot of functions and uses for the program. The gallery there seems interesting as well and worth a subscription. Are you a gallery member by any chance?
Beautiful shading with the snow, the tree is nearly *existential* in its minimalistic approach to composition. Hauntingly eerie, yet utterly symbolic for the season. There's one cliff concave to the right of the background that seems...out of place with the rest of the picture though. You took attentive detail and shading with nearly everything else - I'm wondering if this is supposed to be a horizon haze or an actual cliff concave that one sees in mountainous regions. That would be my only suggestion for area of improvement in the piece.
(I'm only offering constructive criticism, if you don't want/like it, hey it's your art =3 Just thought you might care for it though instead of the usual ooh ahh stuff. lol)

Welp, do you use Painter? You can set up a gallery on the magazine website. I did and after a couple years of submitting things, they came to me and asked if I'd like to do something for the magazine. Also, as with most publications, you can try emailing the editor with your best (Painter) work and see what happens!
I don't really know. I actually don't read magazines, and as for books, there are so many to choose from. Do you want color theory? Textures? Lighting? Technique? There are lots of books available for download from places like archive.org, gigapedia.com, and gutenberg.org.
As for my references, I was supplied with a stock image to work from, and then I hunted down several supplemental images.

This is a good book in PDF format that has some good stuff on color.

This is a nifty primer on things to look more in depth.

And this is a really scary website that goes way into color that I have barely looked thrugh, but I have it bookmarked for when I am feeling up for perusing it.

WOW! That's incredible and visually stunning!
I love your attention to detail! I love the snowy wintry scene and the couple of birds hanging out on the snowbank.
I also love the lone snow-covered house in the distance.
I love the ice buildup on the stream. :)
Charming, adorable and cute!
Excellent work as always, Vannie!

when i started kindergarten we were living in a place like that. i mean there were a lot of other houses closer by, but the snow on the ground and everything looked like that. a small railroad town up in the mountains, in the early 50s before they started building freeways and subdivisions.
