This is based in a real story that my sister, whom lives in italy, told me last week
She knows this mexican girl that opened a mexican food restaurant in downtown florence. One day a couple of american tourists arrived and asked her if she also had tacos. For some weird reason, she mocked them and told them somewhat offended that she sells mexican food... not tacos.
so I suppose that she comes from an alternate dimension where tacos are NOT a mexican dish.
Neta, que pendeja
Of course, her restaurant closed...and rightfully so >8D
*Taquera is a woman that makes Tacos. Taquero is a dude that makes tacos.

La misma paso a mi familia's restuarant, and it was insulting.I was at the back cooking when I was going to go serve some people when I noticed my cousin was serving some white people, and they said, "Hey,Mexican!Do you serve anything decent in this place." It fucking pissed everyone off,and my cousin told them off,and they left like fags.It was just insulting.
Sounds like a snobbish bitch. Some of the best Mexican foods are the ones the truly impoverished people made just to get by. Simple. Regional. Ingenius. Tamales. Tacos. (Though I'm unsure of the history of those). Menudo.... Red Mole... (I know there is a green just never tried them). Stuffed peppers... :9

Have you ever been asked the philosophical question, "What is war to a people whose language has no word for it?" It's basically true - societies that do not have a word for war don't really know that kind of violence or perform it, or really understand the need for it. Naturally, these tend to be tribal hunter-gatherer, agrarian people.
It's silly, but what is a Taco to a people who don't understand fully what a Tortilla is? Don't understand the grinding of maize, of making the cake for the tortilla, cooking it just so, then choosing the traditional fillings? There's a geographical difference too, where rice and fish are more common with Spanish dishes, and chicken and beans and cheese tend to be more common in Mexican. (I'm no cook, just remembering what I see and order commonly, so my dining prejudices are showing. And yes I've eaten in SPANISH restaurants as opposed to Mexican.)
Mexican is one of my 2 favorite cuisines. It's hard to beat out pasta and pizza though, so you have to share the heart(burn) with Italian. You're both latin based cultures, so can we say latinos won?
